Ἡ Ἐμπιστοσύνη στὸν Θεό Trust in God Ὁ Πόνος ὡς Εὐεργεσία στὴν Ἐποχή τοῦ Φόβου Pain as a Blessing in an Age of Fear Με τὴ Φωνὴ τῶν Ἁγίων Πατέρων With the Voice of the Holy Fathers Σήμερα ὁ κόσμος ζεῖ μέσα στὴν ἀνασφάλεια.

Trust in God Pain as a Blessing in an Age of Fear With the Voice of the Holy Fathers We live in an age where insecurity has become the air we breathe.

Pain is no longer simply a difficulty; it has become terror, threat, and despair.

And yet, into this darkness, Christ speaks not with theory but with a cry of life: “Take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) The Holy Fathers teach that this victory is not only about the Resurrection, but about every moment in which a human being entrusts himself to God in the midst of trial. Saint Isaac the Syrian says: > “Without temptations, no one has ever learned the providence of God.” In other words: without pain, we never discover how close God truly is. 1. Rising Above Human Logic God sees what we cannot see Human beings see the moment; God sees eternity. Saint John Chrysostom writes: “Nothing is evil when God permits it; all things are for our benefit.” What looks like destruction today may become healing, deliverance, resurrection tomorrow.

Job did not become holy when his fortunes were restored.

He became holy in the midst of suffering, when he said: “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away.” 2. Persecution as Blessing Trust transforms history After the martyrdom of Stephen came fear, persecution, and scattering.

It felt like collapse — just like our own age.

And yet God did the unthinkable: sorrow became mission. Saint Gregory the Theologian says: “What appears to be misfortune often becomes salvation.” The faithful were scattered, but their scattering became the birth of new churches.

Threat became fruitfulness. Why? Because “the hand of the Lord was with them.” 3. The Samaritan Woman Christ turns wounds into fountains of life She came to the well tired, wounded, rejected — like so many people today.

Christ did not promise her that her circumstances would change.

He promised that her heart would change. Saint Cyril of Alexandria teaches: “Christ does not give mere water, but the grace of the Spirit.” She leaves her water jar — symbol of her old life — and becomes an apostle.

Her wound becomes testimony.

Her shame becomes light.

Her past becomes the salvation of a city. 4. Trust as Freedom Fear loses its power Saint Porphyrios says: “Do not fear pain; pain contains Christ within it.” Trust does not mean passivity.

It means we no longer carry the burden alone.

When we surrender our will to the will of God: – the heart finds peace, – fear loses its grip, – and suffering becomes a school of love. 5. Grace Hidden in Trial Saint Macarius of Egypt writes: “Where there is pain, there grace descends.” The Canaanite woman learned perseverance through Christ’s initial silence.

His silence was not rejection; it was invitation.

So it is with us: God does not test us to crush us, but to open a path toward salvation. As Saint Paul says: “All things work together for good to those who love God.” (Romans 8:28) Even pain.

Even mistakes.

Even what we believe is destroying us. Conclusion Pain is not the end — it can become the beginning Trust in God is the only answer in an age of fear.

It does not erase pain; it transfigures it. Christ has overcome the world.

And when we trust the One who has already won, pain becomes a road to resurrection.

Let us say, then, in every trial: “Lord, I trust that what I am living can become a blessing, because You are Love and You are Victory.”
